Did the FDA Drop the Ball with the Triad Group?

It looks like the FDA is under scrutiny again. The death of a 2-year-old boy and open-heart surgery for a 55-year-old ironworker has brought on the heat to the Triad medical products firm and the FDA. It’s one thing for the company to produce defective products. That would be bad enough. It’s quite another thing if the FDA knew about issues back in July 2009 and did not take the proper measures to contain or restrict the problem.

On January 5, 2010, a massive recall of Triad medical products was launched. Considering that they are one of the largest providers of generic or private label medical products in the U.S., there could be many more reports of problems that will surface. For more details on this topic, msnbc.com published “FDA knew of problems at plant that made tainted alcohol wipes

The FDA has a pretty tough role monitoring everything from artificial sweeteners to imported food and even lead in lipstick.

My heart goes out to those families and this is truly a sad story. The FDA was created to protect the citizens of the US. I for one think they have done much more good than harm in the face of constant adversity. The fact of the matter is mistakes happen and it's important to realize that is just part of being human. Ultimately the FDA is run by people and I don't envy them or the difficult position they signed up for. I often think anyone that wants that job is nuts because there are just too many ways to mess up. I for one have made some dooseys in my day but fortunately that has not lead to anyone loosing their life.
