People may think of going green with energy efficiency measures like changing their light bulbs. It may dawn on them to help the environment when buying paper products and choosing ones with recycled content. But, who really thinks of being more eco-friendly when it comes to consuming alcoholic beverages? It’s not likely at the top of people’s going green list. Yet, due to the success of their ultra premium organic tequila in restaurants and bars in the Bay Area, California one year ago, Artá Holdings has announced that they will be broadening their market and expanding distribution throughout Colorado with plans to expand nationwide.

Artá Tequila, grown in Arenal, a small town in Jalisco, Mexico, honors the past by employing traditional handcrafted distilling methods. The 100% Blue Weber agave is grown by an 11th generation rancher on a single estate. Looking toward the future, the organic tequila employs sustainable methods in every step of the production, from harvesting the blue agave to creating the award winning earth-friendly packaging. The uniquely-shaped bottled is made of 100% recycled glass, recycled metal and sustainably produced cork. And if that’s not enough to toast to, this young San Francisco based company has a 1% promise instilled in their corporate philosophy. David Fox, CEO and founder, is committed to donate a share of their profits to US and Mexican charities.

If you’re thinking a truly eco-friendly product is great and all, but how does it taste? Artá Tequila has received awards for all three of their varietals: Silver, Reposado and Anejo. Not many people think of green in every aspect of their lives. Some choices are purely on auto pilot. Yet, acknowledging that this company that is committed to organic growing, sustainable production, recyclable packaging, and giving back to communities, how do we not celebrate a company whose core values are to “do good while doing well”. After all, why not enjoy a top notch tequila while saving the planet.
