The Bio Bottle: Another Reason to Make Your Own Soda

SodaStream has been doing wonders for reducing cans and bottles with their home beverage carbonation system. People can control what’s in their soda and reduce the number of cans and bottles being manufactured. Now there's even more reason to switch from cans and bottle of carbonated drinks.

A new innovative packaging product was introduced today: the Bio Bottle. With an aim to achieve zero-footprint packaging, SodaStream has partnered with Bio-Tec Environmental to utilize their biodegradable technology. SodaStream is known for their reusable carbonation bottles. Now they’re introducing eco-friendly flavored syrups with plastic packaging that will decompose more rapidly than regular plastic.

We know that every plastic bottle does not make its way to the recycling facilities. When sitting in the overflowing landfills, the biodegradable technology allows the plastic to break down into organic compounds after only 5 years or so instead of the typical 450 years or more. Another eco friendly option is compostable bioplastic that come from renewable raw materials and leave no toxic residue after the decomposition process.

Bio-Tec is a great US green company. Their technology increases the biodegradability of oil-based plastics. And it can be used in PE, PP, PET for a variety of manufacturing applications. Good for SodaStream to finally be utilizing this technology and bringing it to the people.
