Electromagnetic field surrounding a powerlineElectromagnetic field or electric and magnetic fields (EMF) are invisible waves of energy that surrounds electrical devices. Televisions, monitors, refrigerators, and practically any electronic device on this planet including cellular phones, all emit EMF. In fact, almost all of humanity is practically immersed in an invisible sea of electromagnetic field. Although it has been shown that the magnetic fields that penetrate the body do modify the biological functioning of living organisms, it is still up for debate as to the detrimental outcome of the modification.

Bed bug closeup“Sleep tight and don’t let the bed bugs bite” may seem like just a pleasantry equated to wishing someone a good night’s sleep. However, there has been a resurgence of bed bug infestations in the US. On April 14, 2009, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) held its first national summit in Arlington, Virginia addressing the growing problem of bed bugs.

air pollutionAir pollution is a problem that besets the planet today. So many pollutants exist in the air people breathe, especially in urban environments. Some of them may cause minimal health hazards but there are those that are toxic and can cause severe health effects. Here is a list of 10 common air pollutants to be cautious of.

droplet of non-clorine bleachThe standard chlorine bleach that you normally find in any supermarket or drugstore has a 5.25% sodium hypochlorite content. This chemical is a very effective whitener. It can remove stains, disinfect and whiten clothes. While this chemical can be very good for cleaning, there are also some serious health hazards to consider.

The home is the place where people should feel safe and secure. You can freely move about, talk, laugh, or run when you home. However, there are some things in the home, which are invisible to the eye and undetectable to the nose. One of these is radon.

Radon is the silent killer at home. Radon occurs naturally. It is released as a gas through the earth’s surface and groundwater. Since it is highly radioactive, it can have detrimental health effects, such as cancer, to those who are exposed to it often.

Inspect your building for Sick Buiding Syndrome Sick building syndrome (SBS) is a real situation in which occupants of a building experience health symptoms as a result of time spent in a specific building. In the US alone, almost a quarter of office workers express concerns about their air quality at work. To make matters worse, the EPA has already revealed over 100 known cancer causing agents, many of which are commonly found in homes and offices.

children playing in the grassPesticide poisoning is especially harmful to children since their brain and nervous systems are at early critical stages of development. Because their bodies are still growing, children have fewer natural defenses and can develop serious health effects if overexposed to pesticides. There are two categories of health effects of pesticide exposure. Acute exposure refers to an intense exposure over a short period of time. One example would be a child sitting in the room during a spraying. Low-dose and long-term exposure is exposure that occurs over a period of time.
